Job Summary

Welds metal components together; fabricates or repairs products according to layouts, blueprints, or work orders, using variety of arc and gas welding equipment.

The fitter/welder will be responsible for the lay out, fit and welding of fabricated structural forms such as machinery frames, tanks and furnace shells.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Welds metal parts together, using gas welding and any combination of arc welding processes.
  • Performs related tasks, such as thermal cutting and grinding.
  • Repairs broken or cracked parts, fills holes, and increases size of metal parts.
  • Positions and clamps together components of fabricated metal products preparatory to welding.
  • May locate and repair cracks in industrial engine cylinder heads, using inspection equipment and gas torch.
  • May be required to pass employer performance tests or standard tests to meet
    certification standards of governmental agencies or professional and technical associations
  • Assembly and welding of laid-out components
  • Bolts, clamps, and tack-welds parts to secure in position for welding
  • Sets up equipment and welds parts using arc, gas-shielded arc, or gas welding equipment
  • Repairs products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping, and reassembling parts
  • Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas

 

Education and Experiences

  • Proven experience as a welder/fitter: 5-10 years of related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • D1 certification or related certifications preferred
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Previous experience in heavy manufacturing
  • Ability to read blue prints
  • High School/GED and  One-year certificate from college or technical school is preferred
