Tooling Engineer
Twinsburg, OH
Position Summary: Responsible for owning tooling design for a polypropylene co-extrusion process, the Tooling Engineer defines, plans and monitors all site tooling activities, including projects, maintenance, continuous improvement, daily operations, production troubleshooting and lean activities.
Responsibilities:
- Design and oversee all new tool builds and equipment
- Develop maintenance processes around tooling,
- Train the team and tooling vendors on maintenance methods and best practices
- Run daily control loop on tooling performance; resolve production challenges; create and track key performance indicators
- Run and support projects ranging from tooling methodologies, improvements and new product developments
- Investigate and set up a local supply chain for tooling; identify, negotiate and build long term partnership
- Responsible for vendor management – daily interaction, training on specifications, repairs and meets our standards and technological capability
- Support capital investment process through participation in setting strategy, defining projects and executing upon assignments
- Purchase capital aligned with the budget and internal standards
- Collaborate with global colleagues to ensure best practices are met; open to travel to explore and learn company's tooling technology and leverage expertise.
Ideal Candidate Qualities & Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent required
- 5-10 years of experience in tooling design, extrusion, capital purchasing
- Knowledge of plastics
- Knowledge of stainless steel
- Project management skills
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Ability to perform root cause analysis and resolve problems
- Experience with computer applications such as Microsoft Office 365, Solid Works, AutoCAD, Flow simulation, 3-D modeling
- Strong technical communication skills (both verbal and written), self-motivated, entrepreneurial mindset, detail-oriented
- Ability to lead projects and initiatives
- Ability to wear many hats!
