Are you an experienced engineer who has a comprehensive understanding of DS/SX systems looking for a new opportunity where you can grow into a management role?
Check this out!

We have a direct hire opportunity for a client in need of a knowledgeable and ambitious Process Engineer to join their team. This role will primarily focus on interpreting customer specifications, developing metallurgical casting processes, and assessing the physical structures and behavior of metals and metal distribution systems within DS/SX systems.

About Our Client
Our client is an international manufacturer of high-precision, geometrically complex aerospace & defense components and subassemblies. They specialize in directionally solidified/single crystal castings, investment castings, dry sand, green sand and permanent mold and offer in-house services like rapid prototyping, stem drilling, tool construction, machining, ancillary processing, painting, coating, kitting and assembly.

Job Functions
  • Investigate metallurgical failure using root cause analysis.
  • Publish reports on research and completed tests using data based decisions.
  • Identify and improve process yields using various data analysis techniques (statistical, mathematical, DOE, 6 Sigma, etc.) to uncover variables in the process.
  • Document work procedures and processes.
  • Routinely audit production lots for adherence to established techniques and to ensure the repeatability of the results.
  • Identify, evaluate and implement new process technologies that will extend manufacturing and product capabilities.
  • Work closely with other departments to ensure organization objectives are achieved.
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a professional manner.
  • Improve labor utilization and reduce cost.
  • Meet development commitments with respect to established cost and time frames.
  • Develop efficient processes that meet quoted cost targets and quality requirements.
  • Improve yield:  At least 80% yield on single crystal products.
  • Work cooperatively in a team environment to develop and enhance robust manufacturing/metallurgical processes to support the company’s growth in the aerospace and industrial investment casting markets.
  • Develop the overall metallurgical DS/SX casting process from gate design to establishing shelling parameters.
  • Develop, maintain, and teach “best practice” investment casting procedures and practices to ensure business objectives are satisfied.
  • Identify problems, generate alternatives, and implement solutions to problems that affect yield, rework, and overall quality of the product using a standardized approach.
  • Take a leadership role occasionally in resolving cross-functional problems.
Requirements
  • BS in Engineering or related technical field
  • Minimum 5 years applicable experience: Metallurgist or Process Engineer in the DS/SX investment casting industry
  • Knowledge of DS/SX casting process, shell parameters and metallurgical impact
  • Working knowledge of solidification modeling
  • Knowledge and application of DS/SX starter design and proven improvement in DS/SX yields and product quality
  • Ability to interpret customer drawings and navigate models (i.e. NX9 or higher, Solidworks)
  • Good written communication skills to develop processing and work instructions
  • Good verbal communication skills and can feel at ease communicating with customer engineering groups
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent documentation skills
  • Assertive
  • Risk taker
We are an equal opportunity employer. All applicants will be considered for employment without attention to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, veteran, or disability status.
