Position Summary:  The Finishing Department Manager is responsible for understanding how our customer views their purchase, interacting with them and executing the business processes required to meet/exceed the customer’s needs.  This person will lead the daily operations to exceed all Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost targets.
 
Reporting Relationship: Reports to Plant Manager, and supervises direct and indirect hourly associates
Work Schedule:  Full-Time on 1st Shift (6am - 4:30pm) OR 3rd Shift (10pm - 6:30am) 
 
Job Functions:
  • Supervise safety practices of all associates, identify and react to unsafe conditions when necessary
  • Direct daily Finishing Department floor activities to meet weld quality standards
  • Ensure compliance to the production schedule
  • Create the basis for continuous improvement and employee empowerment by ensuring standardized work processes are followed through daily performance audits, the use of performance boards and visual factory methodology, analyzing resulting metrics, performing root cause analysis, and implementing corrective measures as needed
  • Successfully investigate, analyze and implement permanent corrective actions related to customer or internal product and process concerns
  • Instill and maintain a positive work atmosphere (i.e., conduct regular team and individual meetings, set expectations and hold team members accountable for assigned responsibilities and tasks, recognize associates that have exceeded expectations, display respect and commitment to the production operators by timely response to their questions, and deliver immediate reaction to safety, health and environmental issues, etc.)
  • Utilize Lean Manufacturing concepts to drive continuous improvement efforts through Kaizen
  • Complete all Kaizen action items, long-term and special project assignments in a timely manner
  • Develop and lead 5S efforts within assigned areas of responsibility, and audit performance on a regular basis, to insure targets are surpassed on a regular basis
  • Complete all required report, checklists and data entry measuring productivity and ensure all other required checklists are completed accurately and consistently
  • Coach and counsel production operators for attendance, tardiness, work performance, etc.
  • Participate in new employee orientation process and ensure associates are properly trained for their respective work

Ideal Candidate Qualities & Experience:
  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in operations management or a technical field strongly preferred, with a minimum of some post-secondary (high school) education
  • Minimum of five (5) years supervisory/management experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience working in a Lean/Continuous Improvement environment highly desirable
  • Solid, demonstrated people management and leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and train others
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook
