The Ideal Candidate: Do you have the most sought after traits?

In early December, we had the opportunity to sit down with Youth Opportunities Unlimited, a non-profit workforce development organization that serves teens and young adults living in economically distressed areas in Northeast Ohio.

As our conversation moved along, we began to focus on the behavioral traits that we look for in a great candidate. After coming back to the office, we asked our staff to compile a list of some of those traits.

As you read this list, especially as a potential candidate, do you find that you embody any of these qualities? While the technical skills can be taught, these traits will make any person an invaluable employee to their employer.

  • Accountable

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills 

  • Openness and honesty throughout the hiring process 

  • Strong sense of loyalty and perseverance

  • Positive attitude

  • Quality workmanship

  • Attention to detail

  • Critical thinking skills

  • Conflict resolution skills

  • Organized and able to priortize

  • Has authenticity

  • Personable, kind, engaging

  • Self-Starter/hustler mentality

  • Has integrity
     

So what do you think? Seems pretty simple but a blend of these traits can be hard to find in an individual!
